Alan Reading is a portrait of my son who was my favorite model when he was young. I can't get him to relax anymore for a good pose from life or a good photograph to work from. This is a nostalgia piece for me. It is from a photograph of Alan reading a school assignment. He spent a lot of time reading when he was in grade school.

This is an exceptionally complex impasto oil with an elevated surface of small and large brushwork. The colors are continually modulated throughout the work. The painting is framed in a solid oak frame.
