Why .05 percent?

I am always careful to renew CDs before the grace period is up but there was so much going on last week that I forgot.

I had to go to the bank and cancel the CDs to I could roll them over into new CDs with a decent interest rate.

If I hadn't done that the interest rate would have been .05. Why such a ridiculously low rate? There aren't any CD rates that are .05 right now.

Anyway, now they are at 3% which is lower than they were. It took a while to get that done so I hope I don't forget to renew them on time next time.
